Investment Team – Small Cap Opportunity

Portfolio Managers

john-potter-color-headshot1_768John Potter, CFA is a Founding Principal of Cortina Asset Management and has managed the Cortina Small Cap Opportunity Strategy since its inception in 2004. He has 24 years experience in the investment industry. John has successfully guided clients through both bull and bear markets by seeking small cap companies with exceptional business models that generate strong cash flows. In addition to overseeing the direction of the portfolio at large, he has expertise analyzing energy, industrial and consumer companies. John began his investment career at M&I Investment Management Corp., now known as BMO Asset Management Corp., where he spent three years as a Securities Analyst before managing a mid cap value fund for three years. In 2000, he joined Firstar Investment Research & Management Company, now known as U.S. Bancorp Asset Management, where he managed institutional and individual small cap core portfolios. He has served as a board member for the Milwaukee Investment Analyst Society and currently serves on Cortina Asset Management’s Board of Managers. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a member of the CFA Institute.

tom-eck-color-headshot_768Tom Eck, CFA is a Founding Principal of Cortina Asset Management and has managed the Cortina Small Cap Opportunity Strategy since its inception in 2004. He has 20 years experience in the investment industry. Tom’s style is to focus on small cap companies that have established defendable competitive advantages and generate strong cash flow over the long run. In addition to his broader portfolio management oversight, his deep research effort is directed toward health care, financial and media companies. Tom joined the State of Wisconsin Investment Board in 1997, spending two years as a Research Analyst, and from 1999 to 2001 he was an Analyst for a mid and small cap domestic equities team at Strong Capital Management. In 2001, Tom joined U.S. Bancorp Asset Management to co-manage the Health Sciences sector fund then began managing institutional and individual portfolios dedicated to the small cap asset class in 2003. Tom’s background prior to entering the investment management industry is in corporate finance. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a member of the CFA Institute.

Senior Research Analysts

jen-color-headshot_768Jennifer Hanson, CFA is a Senior Equity Analyst and has been with Cortina Asset Management since its inception in 2004. She has 22 years experience in the investment industry. As a Senior Equity Analyst, Jennifer supports the Cortina Small Cap Opportunity, Small Cap Growth and SMID Growth Strategies. She is responsible for equity research in the consumer sector, including the retail, gaming, lodging and restaurant industries. Her investment industry experience began in 1995 when she joined Firstar Investment Research & Management Co. and it continued when they later merged with U.S. Bancorp Asset Management where she remained until Cortina was founded. She holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a member of the CFA Institute.

rd-color-headshot1_768Ryan Davies, CFA is a Senior Equity Analyst and has been with Cortina Asset Management since its inception in 2004. He has 20 years experience in the investment industry. As a Senior Equity Analyst, Ryan supports the Cortina Small Cap Opportunity, Small Cap Growth and SMID Growth Strategies. He analyzes and recommends equity investments in the technology sector, with a focus on software, hardware, semiconductor and IT services companies. Prior to Cortina, Ryan was with U.S. Bancorp Asset Management. Before that he was an Equity Research Analyst at Montgomery Asset Management in San Francisco. Prior to joining the investment business, Ryan worked in public accounting. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a member of the CFA Institute.

roger-rama-color-headshot_768Roger Rama, CFA is an Equity Analyst and has been with Cortina Asset Management since 2015.  He has 6 years experience in the investment industry.  As an Equity Analyst, Roger supports the Cortina Small Cap Opportunity, Small Cap Growth and SMID Growth Strategies.  He focuses on the broader industrial universe, primarily researching and analyzing stocks in the small cap space. Prior to joining Cortina, he worked as a sell-side equity research analyst at Robert W. Baird & Co.  Roger holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a member of the CFA Institute.
Education:  B.A. in Finance, Michigan State University

His focus is on the broader health care universe, primarily researching and analyzing stocks in the small cap space. Prior to joining Cortina, he was a Senior Equity Research Associate at Robert W. Baird & Co. Adam holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a member of the CFA Institute.
