Portfolio Managers

brian-bies-color-headshot1_768Brian Bies, CFA is a Founding Principal of Cortina Asset Management and has managed the Cortina Small Cap Growth and SMID Growth Strategies since their inception in 2004. He has 21 years experience in the investment industry. He specializes in stock selection in the industrial, telecom, technology, and financial sectors. His focus is on identifying small cap companies that have a meaningful growth trajectory in front of them and are equipped with the resources to capitalize on that opportunity. Brian has been an institutional investor since 1996 working in various institutions gaining expertise in multiple investment styles and disciplines. He began his investing career as a Domestic Equities Analyst for the State of Wisconsin Investment Board. In 2000, he joined a small/mid cap domestic equity team at Strong Capital Management as an Equity Analyst. At the end of 2001, Brian moved to U.S. Bancorp Asset Management as an Analyst and was soon promoted to Co-Manager of the First American Small Cap Growth Opportunity Fund and associated private accounts. Brian serves on Cortina Asset Management’s Board of Managers. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a member of the CFA Institute.

Steve Lilly, CFA manages the Cortina Small Cap Growth and SMID Growth Strategies and has been with Cortina Asset Management since 2007. He has 21 years experience in the investment industry. Steve provides in-depth research on health care, energy, and consumer sectors. His investment style emphasizes early discovery of small cap companies with exciting and attainable growth prospects. Steve has been an institutional investor focused on small and mid cap growth equities since 1996, spending the first decade of his career with Columbia Management Group (previously Stein, Roe & Farnham). After five years as an Equity Research Analyst, he began managing small and mid cap mutual fund and institutional assets in 2001. After leaving Columbia Management Group in 2005, Steve gained experience in alternative investing as a Portfolio Manager at PEAK6 Investments, a leading options trading firm. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a member of the CFA Institute.

Senior Research Analysts

jen-color-headshot_768Jennifer Hanson, CFA is a Senior Equity Analyst and has been with Cortina Asset Management since its inception in 2004. She has 22 years experience in the investment industry. As a Senior Equity Analyst, Jennifer supports the Cortina Small Cap Opportunity, Small Cap Growth and SMID Growth Strategies. She is responsible for equity research in the consumer sector, including the retail, gaming, lodging and restaurant industries. Her investment industry experience began in 1995 when she joined Firstar Investment Research & Management Co. and it continued when they later merged with U.S. Bancorp Asset Management where she remained until Cortina was founded. She holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a member of the CFA Institute.

rd-color-headshot1_768Ryan Davies, CFA is a Senior Equity Analyst and has been with Cortina Asset Management since its inception in 2004. He has 20 years experience in the investment industry. As a Senior Equity Analyst, Ryan supports the Cortina Small Cap Opportunity, Small Cap Growth and SMID Growth Strategies. He analyzes and recommends equity investments in the technology sector, with a focus on software, hardware, semiconductor and IT services companies. Prior to Cortina, Ryan was with U.S. Bancorp Asset Management. Before that he was an Equity Research Analyst at Montgomery Asset Management in San Francisco. Prior to joining the investment business, Ryan worked in public accounting. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a member of the CFA Institute.

roger-rama-color-headshot_768Roger Rama, CFA is an Equity Analyst and has been with Cortina Asset Management since 2015.  He has 6 years experience in the investment industry.  As an Equity Analyst, Roger supports the Cortina Small Cap Opportunity, Small Cap Growth and SMID Growth Strategies.  He focuses on the broader industrial universe, primarily researching and analyzing stocks in the small cap space. Prior to joining Cortina, he worked as a sell-side equity research analyst at Robert W. Baird & Co.  Roger holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a member of the CFA Institute.
Education:  B.A. in Finance, Michigan State University

Adam Dahms, CFA is an Equity Analyst and has been with Cortina Asset Management since 2016.  He has 5 years experience in the investment industry.  As an Equity Analyst, he supports the Cortina Small Cap Opportunity, Small Cap Growth and SMID Growth Strategies. His focus is on the broader health care universe, primarily researching and analyzing stocks in the small cap space. Prior to joining Cortina, he was a Senior Equity Research Associate at Robert W. Baird & Co. Adam holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a member of the CFA Institute.
